WHAT IS DRAMA?
Drama is one of four Expressive Art subjects offered at Cardinal Newman High and it is available to pupils from S1 onwards. When pupils reach the end of S2 they can choose Drama as one of their Standard Grade subjects.

STANDARD GRADE DRAMA
This is a two year course in which pupils must complete the 3 main elements:

Creating
Presenting
Knowledge and Understanding

The Standard Grade Drama course enables pupils to examine various stimuli, develop their collaborative skills, explore adding Theatre Arts(sound, lights, costume, props, etc.) before performing their drama to their classmates. They are then given the opportunity to evaluate their own and others performances by sharing their ideas and finally writing essays to corroborate their knowledge gained.

HIGHER DRAMA
Pupils who wish to continue their drama skills after Standard Grade are able to then take Higher Drama in S5 or S6. A one year course exploring, amongst other elements,  their ability to deconstruct plays and understand a Directors  perspective of a performance including set and actor blocking.

ADVANCED HIGHER
The final course offered is Advanced Higher, this is  mostly chosen by pupils who are interested in continuing a career in Drama once leaving high school. It allows pupils  to explore very influential figures in twentieth-century theatre and create a folio of work generated by devising, designing and presenting their own piece of work.
